Brewer’s grains:
Brewer’s grains is a by-product resulting from the preparation of beer. Barley grains are germinated in a warm, moist environment, whereby the starch is converted into sugar. The germinated grains are dried, and the malt culms fall off. The culmless grains are milled, heated and moistened. The sugars converted from starch are then added to a solution. The undissolved grains are separated from the solution; this is what is referred to as brewer’s grains.
More and more sheep farmers are choosing concentrated feed substitutes, allowing them to produce milk and meat more economically. There are even sheep farmers whose operations run entirely on a complete mixed ration of roughage and by-products.
Benefits of brewer’s grains:
- Increases the total roughage intake
- Stimulates milk yield and protein content
- Positive influence on digestion
- Promotes health
- Boosts milk production
- Improved technical results
- Better utilisation, less loss of minerals
